Azumini’s third album ‘Daylight’ is an ambitious and grandiose affair. Right from the off we are plunged into his world with quotes from Fidel Castro (as he takes power in Cuba) set over a glorious post rock backing which busts into 80’s synth a la New Order. On Black veil a huge guitar crescendo breaks into lush strings that lift us into the ether. It’s a surreal album and this is never more evident than on ‘Aloud like Sunlight’ (said to have the actual sound of the sun courtesy of NASA rumbling underneath). Oliver Borrow has never sounded more Lennon-esque than on ‘She Gave up the World’ and it’s a slice of pure pop that is for me the standout track. Elsewhere we hear ghost radio broadcasts, fairgrounds, breakbeat and yes even the Queen!!! A truly epic album!
